Hiking in Cool Weather

Hiking in Cool Weather

Go through this list below to make sure you have everything ready for your cooler weather hike.

Layering is typically a three-part system which includes; a base layer, mid layer, and shell layer. Make sure the base layer will wick perspiration away from your skin to keep the chills at bay. Your mid layer will insulate you from the cold. The base layer will make sure to block the wind and elements from getting to you.

Yes, bring water, and drink it.

You always want to take care of your feet. Not just protect them from the elements but make sure that they are comfortable and can keep you going all day long. This is our favourite boot from Arcteryx, the Aerios FL MID GTXand our favourite shoe is the Aerios FL GTX. Fast, light, waterproof and will keep your feet happy. Dont forget warm, comfortable, moisture wicking socks too!

In Your Pack

Bring a backpack that you’ll be comfortable carrying all day with a few essentials stashed in it.

  • Shell Layer
  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Gloves
  • Hat
  • Small first aid (one per group)
  • Headlamp (if you have an early start or late finish)
  • Map

Most Importantly

Let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to be back (don’t forget to let them know)

Make sure to take only pictures, leave only footsteps, and have fun!
